Padaria Ribeiro opened back in 1878 and they still keep the same traditions especially when it comes to the artisanal way of preparing their products. The pastries are all prepared on the spot, so you can always feel the smell of freshly baked desserts and bread.
Luckily for us, they have several establishments around Porto, so you can always satisfy your cravings when you are in desperate need for a croissant. You can have it plain, with chocolate filling or like good ol’ Portuguese tradition suggests: slightly toasted with cheese or ham and cheese.

Confeitaria Chicana

The recipe and materials used are still the same from when the Bakery first opened, in order to maintain the distinct flavor of the croissants. Fresh batches are constantly being prepared, in order to keep up with high demand, so it will be easy to enjoy a croissant that is coming straight out from the oven and that is both fresh and moist.

Doce Mar

Doce Mar is a truly Conventional Porto bakery and if you’re visiting Foz do Douro, it’s a mandatory stop. The croissants have a soft inside and shiny, crunchy exterior which makes them really hard to resist. Besides plain croissants, there are also other specialties with fillings, that include chocolate, custard or doce de chila, which is commonly used in traditional Portuguese pastries.

Snopão

Snopão is a hidden gem with a laid-back vibe, that will easily become one of your favorite spots in the downtown area. They sell a variety of traditional Portuguese pastries and different types of bread, but their croissants are definitely a must try. They are big, soft and the price is also super appealing, so it will be hard to say “no” when walking by Snopão.

A Petúlia

Petúlia has been open since 1972 and kept the charming and authentic vibe intact. The croissants have a distinct and unforgettable flavor, the perfect balance of a buttery texture with a lightly toasted exterior. Mixpão is basically heaven on earth, due to its privileged location right next to the beach and with an assortment of croissants available you could only dream of. The dough is so soft that once cooked it’s almost like tasting a cloud. You can ask for the plain croissant or be adventurous and try some of their special recipes which include Nutella, creme de ovos (custard), berries or white chocolate (seasonal option).
