Praia do Marreco

In this wide stretch of beach, there are usually boats next to the water and a lot of fishermen practicing their craft, so it’s your chance to get some good deals on the fresh catch of the day. The strength of the ocean and rocks formed a small bay and the waves fill small natural pools, that once warmed up by the sun, will be perfect for you to get accustomed to the temperature of the water (and hopefully not freeze).

Praia da Memória

Right at the beach, a wooden pathway will lead you to a spectacular monument: Obelisco da Praia da Memória. The structure was built on the spot where D. Pedro the fourth disembarked in 1832 with his troops, in order to perpetuate the memory of his victory. This is also what the beach was named after: “Praia da Memória” (Memory beach). The beach is surrounded by dunes and rocks, and it’s very popular amongst surfers due to the spectacular waves. Small stripped tents also embellish the beach, a rather traditional adornment in the north of Portugal.

Praia da Boa Nova

Located in Leça da Palmeira, this beach, despite not being one of the biggest, has a lot of attractions that will definitely spite your curiosity. Nearby, there’s Casa de Chá da Boa Nova designed by the architect Siza Vieira, with two dining rooms overlooking the sea. Farol de Leça (Leça’s Lighthouse) is also a mandatory stop. Built 57 meters above sea level, it has a panoramic view over the coast and surrounding areas.

In this long stretch of beach, you’ll never have to worry about where to set up your space. Its main attraction is the small chapel called Senhor da Pedra, and it will immediately stand out once you arrive. It was built very close to the ocean, rising in the middle of rocks. There are also wooden pathways perfect for walking and biking while feeling the fresh sea breeze, as well as several bars and a golf club.
