Things You Can Do To Celebrate Father’s Day in Porto

Oh Father’s Day: the festivity in which we thank our patriarch figure for all the sacrifices and life lessons he taught us! All the nose-wipes, childish jokes, homework sessions and even the occasional “tap on the bum” that helped us understand that we had to put on some pants to go to school in the morning – all feels worth celebrating!

If you’re visiting Porto during father’s day, we compiled a short list of places to see, eat and drink so that this special day doesn’t go unnoticed.

HERE ARE 5 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO CELEBRATE FATHER’S DAY IN PORTO

GARRAFEIRA TIO PEPE

Regarded as one of the oldest and most famous wine shops in the city, Garrafeira Tio Pepe is the perfect place if you’re looking for a stylish father’s day gift. Selling all kinds of bottled drinks (wine, whisky, gin, liquor, you name it!) and an extensive collection of exclusive cigar brands, your dad will feel like a kid in a candy shop! Take a look in their special port wine cabinet, a dedicated space where bottles as old as 100 are waiting for the right buyer. Will that be you?

ESPAÇO PORTO CRUZ

Located by the riverfront overlooking the Douro and the gorgeous Ribeira Quay, Espaço Porto Cruz is not just a restaurant, a wine shop or a tasting room. It’s all of these micro-activities combined in a single place that vows to celebrate port wine, Porto’s most popular export and the product that is part of the city’s essence. The icing on this proverbial cake is the establishment’s 360º Terrace Lounge, a pleasant outdoor area where both you and your dad can relax while enjoying awesome views of the surrounding district. Espaço Porto Cruz is open from Tuesday to Sunday, between 11am and 11pm.

Nothing screams “Baby Boomers” and “Generation X” louder than a traditional Portuguese tasca! If your dad was born somewhere between the 50’s and the 70’s, chances are that he will feel at home when visiting a place like Casa Guedes. Humble places where the server is usually the owner and treats you like you’ve been friends all your lives even though you’ve never seen him before. Give their signature pork shank sandwich a go, try traditional Portuguese cheese and smoked meats and finally wash it all down with a nice glass of wine or an ice-cold beer. Don’t forget to toast! Casa Guedes is open from Tuesday to Sunday, between 11am and 11pm.

Owned by a lovely Portuguese-Argentinian couple, here you will find the South American world famous expertise around meat cuts paired with the friendly and attentive Portuguese service. Try one of their surprising empanadas whose fillings keep changing every other season, but be careful not to get too stuffed before that juicy Chorizo Steak starts coming your way. As a bonus, you get to see it all in their kick-ass open kitchen! Belos Aires is open between Monday and Saturday from 7pm to midnight.
