If art is your thing and you’re heading to Porto in March, you can rest assured that all Porto art galleries will be happy to welcome you. Whether you’re an avid connoisseur, a casual art enthusiast. Just a hipster who enjoys looking at abstract pieces and scratching his/her chin while trying to figure out what’s going on, you’ll be relieved to hear that Porto has something for everyone!
HERE ARE 5 MARCH EXHIBITIONS HAPPENING IN PORTO ART GALLERIES THAT YOU CAN’T MISS
SERVICE Nº 5 by Adam Linder
Hosted inside the premises of the Serralves Foundation, this exposition by dancer and choreographer Adam Linder is certainly a sight to behold. Instead of a more traditional “brush on canvas” approach to art, Adam Linder and his team created interactive displays where the dancers’ bodies and clothes (or lack thereof) are used as single artistic components of a broader piece. Think of these as half-performances/half-exhibits where art is represented by elements that are very well alive. This expo will take place between the 21st and the 25th of March and is included in the museum’s regular admission ticket, which costs 10€.
SIMULTANEOUS INAUGURATIONS AT MIGUEL BOMBARDA QUARTER
If you’ve done your research on Porto’s art scene, then I am sure you must be familiar with the Miguel Bombarda Quarter by now. What you probably don’t know yet, is that all the art galleries located within the city’s biggest arts hub agreed to inaugurate new exhibitions at the same time. Thus creating a micro-festival that takes place every two months! Luckily for you, the next inauguration cycle is scheduled to take place on the 10th of March, so pay the quarter a visit and watch how the magic happens in one of the city’s most artsy days.
PORTO CARTOON 2018

Last call guys! If you’re a fan of comics and satire, March will be your last chance to see the 2018 edition of Porto Cartoon. Taking place at the Museu Nacional da Imprensa, Porto Cartoon 2018 sheds its satirical light upon climate change, pollution and other natural disasters that might be slowly – but steadily – destroying our planet. Don’t get depressed though, as the exhibition tackles the issue in a funny cartoonish way, once again showing that humour can be a great way of raising awareness. General admission into the museum where you can see the exhibition costs 2€.

COMING HOME by David Guttenfelder
Who would have guessed that Porto would be the best place to look at real pics of life inside North Korea, without the risk of being lobotomized?! Jokes aside, history records show how curious, yet fearful, the human being is of the unknown. And perhaps no other country in the world is as unknown, and therefore as feared and simultaneously as researched, as North Korea. After 20 years away from his homeland, National Geographic photojournalist David Guttenfelder returned to the US feeling like a stranger. He decided to put up this exhibition where North-Korean and American realities face each other through the lens of the author. Will they really be that different?

Last, but certainly not least, we bring you a rather original exposition about…belly buttons! A collection of over 100 sculptures portraying one of our body’s most neglected and uncomprehended features. However, what could easily be regarded as silly turns out to be actually quite sobering. Showing a certain fragility and intimacy in the nakedness displayed, here you can see exposed belly buttons from all ages and body types, allowing you to jump to conclusions about someone based on such a basic and seemingly unimportant element. It’s yet another lesson on human nature. The exhibition will be up and running until the 10th of March inside the Palacete dos Viscondes de Balsemão, and the admission is free.
