HERE ARE 4 RECENTLY OPEN PLACES IN PORTO

BACKSON’S FINE BURGERS AND MUSSELS

The name might not exactly leave much to the imagination, but Backson’s absolutely delivers. After all, this is a place where you can have some damn good giant burgers and eat as many mussels as you’d like while washing them down with Portuguese craft beer directly from the tap – and that’s all we could ever ask for when visiting one of the city’s most popular surf & turf restaurants! If you’ve never tried these sea treats before, be warned, they can be addictive AF! As it will always seem like you still have room in your stomach for one last mussel (spoiler alert: it won’t be the last). That being said, you might as well go for the kill and order their Cajun Killer Mussels straight away. Just remember how literal these guys are with names and brace yourself for a smoking hot (spicy pun) experience! Backson’s Fine Burgers and Mussels are open every day during lunch (noon-4pm) and dinner (7pm-11pm).

DO NORTE CAFÉ & TERRACE

Brought to you by the same brilliant minds behind Hungry Biker, Do Norte Café & Terrace is a Scandinavian-style brunch place where you’ll want to stay for hours on end! With the northern trademark minimalist details, extensive use of wooden elements (including cut logs) and a lovely covered terrace to cap it off, this has to feel like one of the coziest and most welcoming cafés in the entire city. Can you imagine having breakfast and snuggling while looking at the crackling fire inside a salamander wood stove? If that doesn’t make your hygge senses tingle, then you must have been raised by wolves in the harsh wilderness (or worst – New Jersey!). For the ultimate comfort food experience, make sure to check out their “All I Need” dish, with roasted sweet potatoes, cottage cheese, avocado, tomatoes, bacon, scrambled eggs and a bit of pesto for that extra kick. Do Norte Café & Terrace is open every day between 9am and 4pm.

TRAVESSO

As amazing as it might be watching international tendencies flourish in our city, one must always keep touch with his/her roots. O Travesso is a new restaurant that strives to support a topsy-turvy back to basics approach to traditional Portuguese cuisine, applying new concepts and modern cooking techniques while using ingredients and promoting dishes that date back to a simpler era. Picture internet sensation Salt Bae somehow being able to travel back in time and lecturing your great-nana on 21st century kitchen trends… pretty surreal, right?! And yet their roasted veal (28€ for two) shows it somehow works! O Travesso is open from Tuesday to Sunday between 7h30pm and 11h45pm.

O CARNICEIRO

Finally, we’ll cap off our list with a restaurant that is currently part of one of the most innovative hotels in the city. Although meat is certainly a key element of the whole concept behind O Carniceiro (after all, its name translates as “The Butcher” in Portuguese), you can find all kinds of Asian influences all over their menu – which is good news for fellow veggie lovers. Still, this is heaven for all our beloved meat-lovin’ readers! You can look around, pick your meat cut and just stand there watching it cook slowly before melting it in your mouth. Like we said – carnivore heaven! After you’re finished, make sure to check out the hotel’s very own bar – the Hollywoodesque Big Bad Bank! O Carniceiro is open from Monday to Saturday between 7pm and midnight.
