We went on a quest to find the best, most delicious burgers in Porto.
These places are proof that with the finest ingredients and creativity, burgers can also be a gastronomic experience and not only something you eat when you are in a hurry.
Real Hamburgueria Portuguesa

Where: Rua da Torrinha, 134 (Cedofeita)
Opening hours: Tuesday-Saturday – noon to 11 pm / Closed on Mondays and Sundays
Price average: 20€ (2 pax)
Real Hamburgueria is the perfect combination of modern and vintage. Almost everything in this place is Portuguese, from the craft beers to the table mats. And if you pay close attention you will notice they exclusively play music by Portuguese artists.
Their menu has more than 10 different burgers, with two vegetarian options, and with a section dedicated exclusively to burgers with regional ingredients. You can try “tripeiro” (yes it has tripes inside, try it if you dare) or “Chaparro” that will take you to Alentejo with the serpa cheese, farinheira and spinach combo (who knew spinach could sound appetizing). To top it all, the fries are also delicious, and they come with an amazing garlic sauce.
Each month there’s also a special burger available created by the chef that is not usually on the menu, and that was the one we tried. The bread surprised us immediately with its olive taste, and inside “Pauliteiro”, there were also familiar Portuguese ingredients like alheira sauteed with apple and mushrooms.
If you’re still not satisfied (which I doubt), have some desert. They come inside shot glasses and there’s a wide variety to choose from, like lemon cheesecake or chocolate mousse.
On summer days, check their beautiful patio on the back and meet their mascot, a cat that usually likes to hang out with costumers and that is just as nice as the rest of the staff.
Download their App (Android) to check their menu, burger of the month and how long is the wait for a table.
DEGEMA

Where: Rua Passos Manuel, 245
Opening hours: Monday-Sunday – Noon to 11:45 pm
Price average: 20€ (2 pax)
DeGema has a very authentic identity and truly respects the traditions of the north of Portugal, especially in the way they treat their customers with a friendly attitude and warmth.
We had the opportunity to visit their most recent space in Rua Passos Manuel right next to Coliseu do Porto. It has a youthful and colourful vibe, and it’s also decorated with “cabeçudos”, a traditional Portuguese figurine.
Each burger is named after sayings used here in Porto, and one of the most exotic items on the menu is probably “Ai o Morcão” (“lazy ass”) that combines a chicken burger with curry sauce. We tried “Tira o cavalinho da chuva” (“take your little horse out of the rain”) and “Andor bioleta” (“get moving”), that have simpler recipes with small touches like mushrooms or watercress that give these burgers a nice twist.
To go with your food, you can have an amazing sangria or some Portuguese beer like Musa or Letra or even freshly squeezed juices.
As for desert, we chose a fig and cottage cheese ice-cream, one of the many flavours of artisanal ice-creams made at DeGema, and it was the perfect ending to our meal.

Price range: 30€ (2 pax)
Bugo Art Burgers is located on Rua Miguel Bombarda, the most artistic street in Porto, so it was almost mandatory for this place to have a different concept. You can immediately tell the space was carefully designed, creating a comfortable and welcoming ambiance for a dinner with friends or that special someone.
The menu has various suggestions of base ingredients, inspired by international and Portuguese recipes, and you can pick your preferred type of meat. Bread is optional, and if you choose not to include it on your burger you can add two side-dishes like rice, french fries, baked potatoes with rosemary or salad.
We asked for the “Italian” and “Fresh Mushrooms” burgers. The first one, immediately took us to the streets of bella Italia, with the combination of pesto and mozzarella. The “French Mushrooms” burger was a one-way ticket to heaven, thanks to the perfectly balanced mix of sauteed mushrooms, oregano and parmesan. As for drinks, we had an exclusive craft beer from Porto called “Biltre”, that surprised us in the best way possible due to its fruity and malty taste.
For desert we suggest the apple crumble with ice-cream. It will melt in your mouth and it’s perfect for sharing.

You forgat a very important one, it is located in Cais de Gaia , in the market place the Burgers are the best I ever tried.
Hey there! Thank you for your feedback! We haven’t tried that part of town yet but we would loooove to check it out. Do you remember by any chance the name of the place? Cheers!
