Have you been going through an unfortunate streak lately? Well, although there aren’t any grumpy leprechauns to cheer you up or four-leaf clovers to change your course of events, rest assured you can still drown your sorrows in some good-ol’ booze while visiting Porto. Just plan a visit to our popular Irish pubs and let their welcoming vibe infect you. Who knows, maybe you’ll end up borrowing some of the iconic luck of the Irish from them!
HERE ARE 4 IRISH PUBS IN PORTO YOU SHOULD VISIT AT LEAST ONCE
BONAPARTE FOZ

Although it may be easier to reach their downtown location, we recommend that you take the trip to the lovely area of Foz do Douro and check Bonaparte’s original establishment. Opened in the late 70’s, Bonaparte is a staple in the local bar and nightlife scene, and it will most likely be brought up when talking to locals about the best or most iconic bars in Porto. In this bar, looking at the walls is a pastime, as these are filled with the most bizarre objects you can find! Tiny cages, creepy baby dolls, broken surf boards – a huge collection assembled throughout the life of the original owner (that guy was such a hoarder!). Yep, the main hall might look like the room of Sid from Toy Story, but one can’t deny how amazing this Irish pub is! Bonaparte Foz is open every day between 6pm and 2am (extended to 3am on Friday and Saturday nights).

IRISH & CO
In case you’re looking for a more sophisticated Irish Pub where food and drinks share the same spotlight (we’re not kidding – this does exist!), then a visit to Irish & Co is in order! Located across the river in the quay of Vila Nova de Gaia, Irish & Co puts a twist on the traditional Irish pub scene, with delicious meals to go along with your pint of beer, and an amazing terrace located on the top floor where you can enjoy amazing views of the Douro river banks. If you’re lucky enough, you might arrive just in time to check out one of their frequent live concerts. Irish & Co is open every day between 4pm and 2am (extended to 3am on Friday and Saturday nights).

RYAN’S IRISH PUB

We’ll start off our list with a place that is somehow hidden in plain sight. Located behind an unsuspicious façade just a few steps away from the gorgeous Ribeira Quay, Ryan’s has been up and running since 1997! Yep, this one is the hipster of Irish Pubs – it was inaugurated long before Porto was “cool and mainstream”. Its atmosphere is as authentic as it can be, with wooden balconies, Celtic music, football games on the telly and – of course – an extensive menu with all kinds of drinks from all over the globe. Ryan’s Irish Pub is open from Monday to Saturday between 4h30pm and 2am (extended to 4am on Friday and Saturday nights).

SIDEWAYS IRISH PUB
Our final place might be a bit of a stretch from Porto, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it. Think of it as a special boozer day trip! Every Wednesday night, live music concerts are held inside this big tavern located in Santa Maria da Feira, and the place gets packed with locals having fun and trying to clear their heads after a long day at the office. In fact, music is a big part of SideWays’ identity, as huge parts of their stone walls and ceilings are covered with concert tickets and band posters. This Irish Pub is open every day from 9am to 2pm (extended to 4am on Friday and Saturday nights).
