It’s officially Spring! And with all the birds chirping, flowers blooming and allergies comes our brand new list of April events. There’s art, music, cinema and even a little taste of TEDx for the more curious. All these April events are the perfect excuse to get out of the house and enjoy Porto under the sun.

ESCHER, The Dutch Genius in Porto

Escher’s work has been praised throughout the years, with exhibitions all over the world and more than 3 million visitors. His bold creations dare you to use your imagination while looking for hidden signs and multiple interpretations. A visionary perspective that combines science, geometry and nature. At Alfândega do Porto, you’ll get to know 135 of his works, including some of his masterpieces like “Hand with Reflecting Sphere” or “Eye”.

TEDx Porto – TRUST

TEDx Porto will gather 16 speakers to discuss themes revolving around trust. Trust is something that impacts our daily life and personal relationships, thus the plan is to reflect on how we can promote and create trustworthy environments, with the presentation of out-of-the box and singular ideas. It’s your opportunity to participate in this worldwide event!

Festa do Cinema Italiano – Italian Cinema Party

Festa do Cinema Italiano isn’t just a film festival, it’s an homage to Italian culture. Besides exhibiting the classics and great masterpieces of Italian Cinema, the festival also introduces the works of promising new film makers. Peter Hook & the light

You may know Peter Hook as one of the original members of Joy Division. Yes, that guy that added some unforgettable bass lines to their tunes. After parting ways with the rest of the band, he now performs live with The Light but his work with Joy Division and New Order will not be forgotten. With the announcement of this recent tour, comes the promise of performing the album “Substance”. That being said, we know excitement levels just went up a notch. Here’s the link to get tickets.

Christian Rizzo-Une maison
Festival DDD

The national premiere of “Une Maison” by Christian Rizzo, is part of the contemporary dance festival “Dias de Dança”. As the name suggests, the performance revolves around “A House” as being both a physical and mental space filled with memories and different connotations. It’s a piece for 14 performers, built around emotions and this definitely transmits why Christian Rizzo is one of the most prominent names of French performing arts.

Party Sleep Repeat

Party Sleep Repeat is one of the most prominent festivals in Portugal, having won several awards. Besides that, this festival is focused on charity since the money made from ticket sales is given to those in need and to cancer research facilities. The line-up features the finest selection of Portuguese bands like Dead Combo, Conjunto Corona, Astrodome and many more. We know it’s not exactly in Porto but there’s no need to worry! The organization provides a free shuttle from Praça de Lisboa to Oliva Creative Factory and back. You just have to book your seat using the email available on their website!
