“It’s the season to be joly” and we are welcoming it with a brand new list of December Events!
Don’t be fooled, it’s not all about seasonal festivities and it actually includes a touch of punk and jazz. Porto is always surprising us, right?
Here is our list of December events
Christmas and New Years Eve
It’s Christmas time!
The most wonderful time of the year, when the city of Porto is even more magical.
Starting on the 30th of November, 80 streets will be filled with lights that will illuminate every corner. It’s also time to put up the magnificent Christmas tree at Avenida dos Aliados, the perfect background for every group or family photo.
In Cedofeita, swings with words about Christmas will be installed, so we can all remember what Christmas is all about: “love” and “magic”. If you’re a fan of ice-skating, there are two rinks where you can show off your skills, one at Avenida da Boavista and another at Praça D. João I.
And we could not forget to mention Christmas Markets, as there are plenty for you to visit so you can get some original gifts! From the 14th to the 22nd there’s “Artesanatus Porto” at Jardim de São Lázaro, and until the 31st, Mercado da Alegria, this one will take place at different locations (check their facebook page). Check the programme for more info about other markets happening in Porto.
Now, let’s talk about New Year’s Eve. If you have no plans yet, there’s no need to worry, just make your way to Aliados where Portuguese musicians Tiago Nacarato and Miguel Araújo will be performing. At midnight, it’s time to welcome 2020 with a firework display followed by a night of dancing, as DJS will electrify the place.
You can also choose to spend the first hours of 2020 at Gare Porto with DJs, Jacopo and AtsØmm. If electronic music is not really your thing, Maus Hábitos will welcome 2020 with the event Boita d’anu no Maus, bringing the best african beats for you to shake that booty to.

Christmas Concert at Casa da Música

The symphonic Orchestra from Casa da Música will be performing pieces by piano prodigy, Camille Saint-Saëns. The musician was one of the most famous composers and conductors of Romanticism, creating intricate pieces that will surely lighten-up Casa da Música while celebrating this festive season.

Porta Jazz – Ciclo Clubedo

In order to spread jazz all over town, Associação Porta-Jazz is putting together Ciclo Clubedo, a series of jazz concerts happening in december. The concerts will take place at several iconic rooms across town, and for 10 days, these places will be rediscovered. Luís Lapa & Pé de Cabra, Trio João and Puzzle are just some of the ensembles that will perform, bringing those groovy tunes and distinct sounds that make jazz such an emblematic musical genre.

Postpunk strikes back again 3

Postpunk strikes back again will return for its 3rd edition, as it had massive success and has been a crowd pleaser since its debut. On the 7th of December, some of the best bands from the contemporary post-punk scene will put on a revolutionary show that will make the venue walls shake. Esben and the Witch, Nerves and Ist Ist are just a few of the bands that will be present at this “mini-festival”, that we are sure will be nothing but an awesome event.

Filha da CVLTO

CVLTO is a defiant cultural project made in Porto, sharing art and ideas on their platform (that you should definitely check out).
In order to share their ideals, Filha da CVLTO surfaced, an event where you can party, free your mind and surround yourself with culture.
The line-up will range from punk to the best european synth-wave, including portuguese band Jarda, Carbon Killer or Kazän. The event also includes art installations and some other experiences that will surely be unforgettable. It’s the perfect Pre New Year’s celebration.
