Events and Things to do this July in Porto

It’s time to welcome the month of July and all the events it has for us.

Since the weather is getting warmer, it’s time to get tickets to concerts and incredible dance performances, or even escape the sun to attend one of the most innovative conferences you could ever find.

Efrim Manuel Menuck

Start your month at Passos Manuel, where on the 1st of July the Canadian musician Efrim Manuel Menuck (fb page) will be performing solo for the first time in Portugal.

He is notable for his work with the bands Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s and Silver Mt. Zion, and his unmistakable signature touch on the guitar and tape loops. Inspired by his previous works, he released his second album Pissing Stars, that he will present on stage accompanied by Kevin Doria of Growing Hiss Tracts.

Kismif Conference brings together an international community of researchers, focusing on underground music and DIY culture. The conference has a multidisciplinary approach, and the goal is to discuss not only music but also other artistic fields such as film, video, graffiti and street art, theater and performing arts, literature, radio, programming and editing, graphic design, illustration and cartoon.

In this edition, the conference will focus on “Gender differences, identities and DIY culture”, and it will be accompanied by a Summer School and a diverse social and cultural program.

God is an Astronaut

God is an Astronaut will visit Casa da Música to present their latest album, Epitath.

As one of the best instrumental groups, with intense melodies and energetic rhythms they will take you on a journey through loss and pain. With such a heartfelt album, it’s guaranteed their performance will leave you with goosebumps.

The ensemble Stars of American Ballet, formed by some of the greatest dancers from the New York City Ballet and the American Ballet Theater, will be performing in Portugal for the first time. Works by composers like Chopin or Schubert will be revisited, serving as a soundtrack to the performances, and combining classical music with contemporary dance perfectly.
