Wrekmeister Harmonies was founded by J. R. Robinson, who was recently joined by Esther Shaw to collaborate on their latest album “The Alone Rush”, a mysterious and haunting work due to the combination of metal, post-rock and a lot of improvisation. A performance that will be both peaceful and intriguing, travelling through escalating sounds and emotions.

Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon / Dance + Set and Reset Reset
Photo by: Jaime Roque dela Cruz
“Dance” was the first collaboration between Lucinda Childs and the composer Philip Glass, with the original choreography (one of the most important in post-modern dance) dating back from 1979. Seventeen dancers will be performing while the original film is screened as a backdrop, creating a unique experience. “Set and Reset Reset” is also a postmodern manifesto, that was first presented to the public during the 60’s in New York. Both of these classic dance pieces are now reinterpreted by The Lyon Opera Ballet, a company created within the Lyon National Opera in France and with national premiere at Teatro Rivoli.

Echo and the Bunnymen are one of those bands whose sonority instantly takes us back to the 80’s. Their repertory includes hits like “The Killing Moon” and “The Cutter”, which we are sure you’re familiar with if you’re a fan of post punk and new wave. On the 17th, the band will be visiting Porto to present their most recent album “The Stars, the Oceans & The Moon”, which includes new versions of some of their most popular songs plus two new original tunes.

The 39thedition of Fantasporto is finally here, this time to explore “The Challenges of Modernity”. For almost two weeks, the festival will travel through Fantasy Cinema while reflecting upon current society and showcasing movies from 54 different countries.
The pre-opening starts on the 19th, revisiting classics like “Easy Rider” by Dennis Hopper and “The Shining” by Stanley Kubrick. The opening session, on the 22nd, presents “Prospect” by ZeekEarl and Chris Caldwell, which is part of the Festival’s competition. The rest of the programme includes both short and full-length films, competitions and awards, plus projects created by upcoming filmmakers and cinema students. The diverse programme proves once again that Fantasporto is not only a meeting point for cinephiles, but also a place for cultural exchange where the seventh art can be fully appreciated.
If you have been looking for a different film viewing experience and wish to broaden your “watched” list, why not give it a go?
