The Porto art scene is growing and bringing new artists to town every day. You can see it everywhere, from graffiti to billboards, posters on buildings, and even the floor is getting decorated by talent. If you’re an art lover, you can’t miss these exhibitions and the variety of different contexts in which they’ve been developed. They will surely nourish your stay in Porto.
Zéro de Conduite: Works from the Serralves Collection
Named after the Jean Vigo’s French film of 1933, this exhibition takes place in Serralves, one of Porto’s biggest art museums. Running until September 9th, you can expect arts of all kinds, from sculpture to photography, sound and graphic design, which the dozens of artists who took part in this project used for conveying a message of unsettlement and resistance. These collections break the politically correct norms that we are supposed to follow, through the potential of rule breaking, of living against a system that continually forbids us unrestrained and free lives.
The entrance fee is 10€, but you can always enjoy other exhibitions (such as the one mentioned below, “Besides, History”), and spend the day visiting the house, museum, park, and library.

Besides, History
Until the 15th of October, visit Serralves for their exhibition on architecture. “Besides, History” aspires to clash three parts. Go Hasegawa, from Tokyo, and Kersten Geers, and David Van Severen, from Belgium, meet with the history of architecture as their medium. You will hear conversations between these three men about the role of architecture in the modern world, as old buildings and projects inspire the new wave of architects to adapt their own work to the knowledge of others.
Serralves is opened every day, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on week days, and until 8 p.m. on the weekend.

Pensar no Vazio – Carlos Mensil

Roughly translated as “Thinking about Emptiness”, Carlos Mensil’s exposition will take place in Galeria Presença until mid September. Fourteen new pieces, created between last year and 2018, come together as a challenging project that tests our perceptions. Carlos Mensil’s stay in New York inspired him to let go of the paintbrushes and create an exhibition with a white wall as its canvas. The result is an amazing exhibition that, even though through different means, still conveys the author’s traditional expression.
