Legendary Portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa once wrote an ad for Coca-Cola. “At first you might strange it, but then it gets ingrained”, he (kind of) said – don’t judge the guy, it sounds way better in Portuguese! Bottom line: he intended the slogan to be based on the idea that this world-famous beverage was actually an acquired taste. If that’s the case, then sushi might be coke’s perfect match. After all, how many can honestly say they absolutely loved sushi from the very first bite? However, like Coca-Cola for Pessoa, the more you try it, the more you end up falling for it. If you’re making your way to Porto anytime soon and have long acquired the taste for this Japanese dish, you can rest assured there is no shortage of amazing sushi restaurants spread around the city. In this post however, we’ll be focusing on the crème de la crème and bring you the undisputed best sushi restaurants in Porto.

DOMO SUSHI

We’ll start off our list with the perfect example of an amazing place hidden in plain sight. Unsuspiciously tucked in a corner near the city’s main metro station (Trindade), Domo is a tiny restaurant that might go unnoticed by those less attentive. However, if sushi is your thing, you will most certainly not want to miss it! In case you’re an expert, you can cut straight to the chase and order your favourites from their extensive selection of Niguiris, Hossomakis or Gurans, however, shall you wish upon a more diverse experience, we recommend giving it a go at their Sushi & Sashimi Combos or at one of their Freestyle options – you’ll get to try it all and you won’t regret it! Domo is open for both lunch (noon-3pm) and dinner (7h30pm-11pm) from Monday to Saturday.

Be that as it may, the real party starts once the food (and especially the sushi) is brought to the table! Impeccable presentation, strong consistency (you’ll see this if you’re lucky enough to visit twice) and – most importantly – absolutely delicious! Cap it off with one of their signature desserts and you’ll have yourself a night to remember! Wish is open every day between noon and midnight.
