Here are five recently open places to eat where you’ll find Porto’s newest gastronomic marvels!
O Restaurante da Maria Odete
Young or old, Portuguese people will always reminisce about the same thing: traditional Portuguese grandmother food. At Restaurante da Maria Odete, you’ll be able to find out for yourself what makes these memories so special. Owner Maria Odete’s face can be seen in pictures and portraits all around the room, which also boasts a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Classics like tenderloin with Serra cheese (16 €) and bacalhau à Brás (traditional codfish dish with eggs, onions and potatoes Brás, 14 €), as well as great vegetarian and dessert options, make this new restaurant a must if you’re hungry for authentic Portuguese food and near Trindade station.
Open noon to midnight (non-stop service!) from Monday to Saturday.

Thamel

Asian spices and specials from the American southwest meet at Thamel, a recently open restaurant located in a downtown area full of enticing options for a memorable night out. The restaurant was designed to provide the perfect eating experience where groups, families, friends and couples with different preferences can have dinner together. Wooden beams and stylish lamps add to its appealing ambience.
Their Eastern menu offers popular dishes like shrimp pad thai (15.50 €) and Nepalese dumplings (5 €), while the Western menu has options such as sticky pork ribs (14 €) and the Mexican Burger (13 €). Tasty vegetarian alternatives and generously served cocktails (with witty names like Karma, Dancing Monk and Día de Los Muertos) provide the finishing touches of Thamel’s incredibly varied menu.

Morgane Petiscos & Vinhos
When you’re in the mood for appetizing tapas and a good glass of wine, give Morgane Petiscos & Vinhos a try. A great place to stop after visiting Clérigos Tower or the famous Lello bookstore, Porto’s new tapas experts offer a wide array of bite-sized wonders ranging from eggplant stuffed with roasted vegetables (3.80 €) to fried sardine with roasted bell pepper coulis (6.50 €) and corn tortillas with smoked salmon and avocado (6.50 €). A feast for the eyes as well as the stomach, all tapas are beautifully served in sleek portions. They also serve meat, vegetarian and fish dishes for hungrier visitors.
Open Tuesday to Sunday from noon to midnight.

VietView

Located in the busy Rua de Cedofeita, VietView is globalization summarized in one delicious package: the dream project of Brazilian entrepreneur Fabio and his Vietnamese wife Ha, the restaurant opened in April 3rd 2019, a lucky date for the couple according to the Vietnamese horoscope. The magic date seems to have: cozy and beautifully decorated in shades of yellow, with touches of bamboo, the restaurant offers irresistible specialties from the Hanoi region of Vietnam that smell incredible from the moment you step through the door. The Hanoi pho is the chef’s choice (12 € and 14 € for the XL portion), but the menu also offers more exotic options such as Nuóc yên ngân nhĩ (white fungus bird’s nest drink, 2.50 €) and much more.
VietView opens for lunch every day but Monday, and serves dinner every night of the week starting 7 PM (7:30 on Fridays and Saturdays).

Niku Sushi Fusão & Tacaria
If you’re into Japanese food and contemporary cuisine, Niku Sushi is the perfect place to try out some of the most interesting fusion food Porto has to offer. Although tacos and sushi may not seem to match at first glance, Niku’s taco sushi is the restaurant’s crowning jewel and is guaranteed to make you come back for more. For 13 €, the trio tacos sushi includes one salmon, one tuna and one shrimp taco sushi for a full taste of the chef’s specialty. The burger sushi is also an interesting take on the traditional American and Japanese classics, and the restaurant has more traditional sushi offers as well.
Niku Sushi is closed on Mondays and opens at 7 PM from Tuesday to Saturday. On Sunday, lunch only, starting at 12:30.
