Yet, we all know how difficult it can be for a non-meat eater to find a decent, fulfilling vegetarian brunch… well, not anymore!

People say one should always strike while the iron is hot, and Urbana’s owners surely vouch for the truth behind this motto! After enjoying tremendous success with their first business venture in Foz do Douro, they have finally expanded their healthy, vegan food empire into the city centre. Famous for both their sweet and salty tapiocas (an exotic starch used to make pancakes or crepes), Urbana prides itself on their no processed foods, no sugar, gluten-free cooking policy! So sit back, enjoy the plant-based decoration and have one of their pre-set breakfast menus along with a signature tapioca – enjoy the ultimate guilt-free experience! Urbana Baixa is open from Monday to Saturday between 8h30am and 7h30pm.

As one of the city’s first and most popular vegetarian places, daTerra’s network of restaurants is a pretty recognizable and successful franchise. They brought veggie options to the city’s food scene before vegetarianism became a thing in Portugal – and for that they deserve all the credit they get! Nowadays, and besides the lunch and dinner buffets, daTerra also offers a daily vegan all-you-can-eat breakfast menu (5,90€) where you can have as many pancakes, croissants, sandwiches and granola bowls as you like! There are also several gluten and sugar-free options at your disposal, so if you often have a hard time discovering new places that can fit your dietary restrictions, daTerra is the place to go. daTerra is open every day between 8h30am and 11pm.

Vegan cinnamon rolls anyone? If you like to start your day with a proper sugar rush, Berry offers pretty unorthodox choices when it comes to vegetarian brunch options. Though you still have plenty of regular healthy choices, such as toasts, porridge with fruits or smoothies, this is definitely a place to visit for those with a sweet tooth! Artisanal biscuits, gluten-free truffles, brownies and even small tarts – all vegan! Because cutting out the meat and dairy products doesn’t mean the fun is over. Berry is the perfect place to show your parents vegans (or vegetarians) eat way more than lettuce and broccoli! Berry is open from Monday to Saturday between 9am and 6pm.
