So, you’re on your way to Porto and want to prove to your travel companion that the world has definitely changed…well, you’ve come to the right place! Although we might not be as flashy about it as our commendable Spanish neighbours, you can rest assured Porto is still a very open and gay-friendly city, one where you’ll find great places for both you and your gay best friend to have a memorable night out. Whether both of you are feeling like going to a concert, pulling off an all-nighter or just chillax while having a drink, these are the places where your friend will feel comfortable in his/her own skin and where the rainbow flag can be waived with pride.
HERE ARE 4 GAY-FRIENDLY PLACES IN PORTO WHERE YOU CAN GO FOR A NIGHT OUT
CONCEIÇÃO 35
Inaugurated in 2015, Conceição 35 quickly became a hotspot among the local LGBTQ community and has since become a staple in the city’s nightlife scene. With its dim lights and darker atmosphere, this is a great place for a more intimate experience where you and your travel mate can try some tapas and have a toast with sangria. However, this bar should also feature in your itinerary in case you and you’re friend are party animals – especially if you’re visiting over the weekend! Every Friday and Saturday nights, the table area is converted into a dancefloor and the bar becomes an improvised disco, with all hell breaking loose in the process! Conceição 35 is open from Tuesday to Sunday between 4pm and 2am (extended to 4am on Fridays and Saturdays).

ZOOM PORTO

Regarded as the hottest gay night club in the city, Zoom is the place to go if you just want to skip pleasantries and dance the night away. The giant disco balls, the hard beats and the amazing atmosphere are all major crowd-pleasers, but throw in a thriving community and – of course – a group of hot male strippers dressed as The Village People, and you simply can’t go wrong on this night out! Zoom Porto is open on Friday and Saturday nights, from midnight onwards until the party is over – though the party never really ends!

CAFÉ LUSITANO
If your friend has a weak spot for eclectic parties, Café Lusitano is the place to go! A popular laid-back 50’s style bistro for most of the time, this place goes full-on Clark Kent on the first Friday of every month, when the sophisticated and cultural ambiance gives place to kitsch objects and a party atmosphere of epic proportions. With great music, awesome food and a one-of-a-kind decor (after all, the co-owner is a certified interiors design – surprise, surprise), this is one gay-friendly place you’ll want to introduce your friend to for a memorable night out! Café Lusitano is open from Wednesday to Saturday between 9h30pm and 4am.

MAUS HÁBITOS

Recently voted as the Best Nightclub in our 2018 Reader’s Poll, the last place on our list is a cultural intervention bar where everyone is welcome, regardless of race, creed, gender and, obviously, sexual orientation. In fact, seldom will you find a more eclectic place! At Maus Hábitos, diversity is truly the key, a motto which is noted not only across the different audiences it reaches, but also in the broad variety of services it provides. Where else can you find a concert hall, a bar, an art gallery and even a pizza place within the same grounds? This is the kind of nonsense outside-the-box mindset that helps make Maus Hábitos such a must-visit place for you and your friend’s night out in Porto. Maus Hábitos is open from Tuesday to Saturday between noon and 4am.
Better get ready for that night out already – your friend is waiting! Have you ever been to any of these places? What are your thoughts about them? Let us know on the comments section!
