Sangria can be the most amazing ice-breaker during a date, right? Don’t get us wrong, any alcohol is good to get the conversation flowing, but there’s just something about this lively drink that makes it perfect for the occasion. Who knows, maybe a jar of sangria is not the only thing you and your date will be sharing by the end of the night!
HERE ARE 6 SPOTS TO TAKE A DATE TO IN PORTO IF THEY LOVE SANGRIA
VERMUTERIA DA BAIXA

Although this bar is mostly famous for the drink that borrowed its name from (the fancy Italian vermouth), one should never – EVER – overlook its amazing pear sangria. This unusual, albeit very delicious, sangria flavour is made with a mixture of Martini Prosecco (of course it had to include vermouth somewhere), white port and sparkling wine, and each jar costs 16€. Vermuteria is open every day between 12pm and 2am.

CHAMP’S DA BAIXA

Opened in 2012, the Champanheria da Baixa offers an extensive selection of champagnes and sparkling wines, and pretty much everything in the restaurant – including their sangria – revolves around these drinks. We recommend their signature sparkling wine and strawberries sangria (5€/glass or 18€/jar), which is widely regarded as the absolute best in Porto. On the other hand, if you’d like to go on a spending spree to impress your date (not judging) you may want to try their Champagne Sangria (20€/glass or 80€/jar) made with authentic Ruinart Champagne. Champanheria is open every day between noon and 2h30am.

Selling amazing steak sandwiches (we call them Prego no Pão) at 3,80€, Venham Mais Cinco is considered one of the best cheap eateries in Porto, for both locals and tourists alike. What fewer people might know, is that this traditional looking place also offers one bad-ass red fruits sangria, made with white, red or sparkling wine – you choose! Each jar costs only 9€, and the place is open every day between noon and 11pm.

XICO-QUEIJO
Located in the heart of the city, this tapas restaurant offers a wide variety of delicatessen and cheese platters that serve as the perfect complement for your sangria jar. Xico-Queijo has a relatively small and rustic space, appropriated for the intimacy of a date, and since you guys will be sharing the same food and drinks, you’ll have to sit very very close to each other… If you really want to make an impression (in a good way) you must try their specialty: grape and cucumber sangria jar (4,50€/glass or 19€/jar)! It goes down like nobody’s business. Xico-Queijo is open from Tuesday to Sunday between 5pm and 01am.

A modern space with a vintage twist, this informal restaurant is the place for you to combine some of the best Portuguese traditions: port wine, sangria and appetisers – welcome to Latin culture! Casa Vasco’s main difference to every other place on this list is the fact that they’re known for having the best port wine sangria (5€/glass or 16€/jar) in Porto! And if that’s not the greatest incentive to pay them a visit, then what is it? As they put it themselves: this is the perfect place to enjoy some very unusual tidbits in an informal and comfortable space. Casa Vasco is open every day from noon to midnight, except on Fridays and Saturdays when it stays open until 01h30am.

Acclaimed for its outstanding musical taste, Aduela is the perfect place for a sunny day date, as you’ll be able to enjoy their beautiful outdoors space. It’s easy-going, different, somewhat whimsical and a place with a soul – all the necessary ingredients for a top class date! Add a delicious glass of sangria (2€) and you’re in for a treat! In the words of Eduardo Galeano: «we are all mortals, until the first kiss and the second glass of wine» Or should we say until the first glass of sangria? Aduela is open every day from noon to 02am.
