Here in Portugal we have a saying: O que é Nacional é bom! Roughly translated, it means something along the lines of “What’s National is good”. It was adopted after a very popular jingle from a local flour-milling business. Yep, our most patriotic motto comes from an advertisement for a company that makes cookies…
Granted that the Portuguese might not be the most nationalist people out there, but here in Porto we can still recognize local talent when we see it, as the local scene is filled with fabulous fashion designers and incredible stores that are willing to promote their outstanding work.

THE FEETING ROOM

Inaugurated in 2015, the Feeting Room is a modern shop located in the heart of the city, whose main goal is to promote the work of Portuguese fashion designers. Besides its extensive collection of clothes, shoes and accessories, it also sells small decoration pieces and artworks from – you guessed it – Portuguese artists. As a plus, inside this store you will find a Café, the shop’s exclusive concept coffee house that stands as one of the most unique of its kind in the city. The Feeting Room is open every day between 10am and 8pm, except on Fridays, Saturdays (both 10am-9pm) and Sundays (12pm-8pm).

ODMORA

Although Odmora is located in Porto’s trendy art district, once inside the store you could easily think that you’ve just been transported to Beverly Hills. The flashy lights, the extravagant chandeliers, the atmosphere…it has “Pretty Woman” written all over the walls! The collections displayed are all created by Portuguese fashion designer Ricardo Odmora, a popular name in showbiz who has dressed several celebrities. Each piece is unique and exclusively targeted towards a female audience, and it should be your go-to place if you’re in need of a special piece of clothing for an important event, an upscale party or a formal dinner. Odmora is open from Monday to Saturday between 11am and 7pm.

CRU COWORK

CRU Cowork is definitely not your typical fashion store. It is, first and foremost, a co-working space where people from all areas gather in search of an opportunity to develop their personal projects. However, one of its areas is also a functioning store, filled with exclusive collections from independent Portuguese fashion designers. Selling clothes and accessories, but also decoration items, drawings and even plants, all at surprisingly affordable prices. It’s artsy, original and unpretentious, and that is why it’s so great! The shop is open from Monday to Saturday between 10am and 8pm.

EARLYMADE CEDOFEITA

Half-shop, half-art exhibit, EarlyMade (a literal translation of “Cedofeita”, the quarter where it’s located) is one of the coolest and most progressive stores in the city. With a less-is-more approach on decoration and an almost industrial vibe, EarlyMade doesn’t want to distract you from what really matters: fashion and art. Although only about 50% of the pieces were created by Portuguese fashion designers (like Armando Cabral), all the other foreign brands represented are somewhat related to the national industry whether they’re produced in Portugal or use typically Portuguese elements. The shop is open from Wednesday to Saturday between 12am and 8pm.

CHIADU TERRACE
Exclusively dedicated to their devoted female audience, Chiadu Terrace is the store that will take your boho-chic look one step further. With a big selection of colourful dresses, flowery patterns and unconventional shirts, this is one of the best stores in the city if you want an outfit that matches your free spirit! Although some of the pieces displayed are of French origin (after all, isn’t laissez-faire the perfect boho-chic slogan?), most of the collections were made by portuguese fashion designers, granting Chiadu Terrace a much-deserved place on our list. The store is open from Monday to Saturday between 11h30am and 7h30pm.
