No, you don’t have to go to Spain to have some tapas…

Tapas n’ Friends opened their first space in Porto in January with more than fifty original tapas, freshly made juices and drinks for you to try. Besides the dishes on their regular menu like potato peels with garlic mayonnaise or Serra cheese and smoked ham bruschetta, they also included others that are more traditional here in Porto like “rojões”, “tripas” or “francesinha”. The restaurant also offers the perfect ambience for you to share some food with a group of friends, just as the name suggests.

Pop Cereal was the first cereal café in Portugal and to our delight, they opened for business in Porto last December.

It’s one of the coolest places ever. I mean, just by going inside you get the image you are in some kind of dream or cartoon, and you have the instant urge to start taking pictures of everything. It’s very instagrammable.

The tiny milk bottles and general presentation are just too cute, and there’s an endless list of cereals and toppings (cookies, chocolates or even ice-cream), so you can choose your dream combination!

It’s your chance to be a “cereal killer”.

Don’t even dare say you came to Portugal and didn’t try bacalhau! It’s one of our national treasures. And if you are eager to try it you should definitely go to Lhau Lhau Maria, where they have a very diverse menu dedicated to this delicious fish. Besides including the more traditional dishes, they have some original and “outside-the-box” recipes like the codfish burger, ceviche and codfish francesinha. It’s a beautiful homage to Portuguese cuisine.

Vegetarians look away, there’s a new steakhouse in town.

Beer, beef & beyond just opened in January, offering the “low & slow” smoked American barbecue with the best Portuguese meat and a Brazilian touch.

Start with some appetizers like the lupin bean falafel and the cassava fries. For the main course, the pastrami and ribeye are a nice option especially if combined with a craft beer or a local wine. And for the final touch, ask for the brigadeiro pudding (an amazing Brazilian desert) and a port. It will take you to heaven.

Frankie Hot Dogs

At Frankie hot dogs you will not find your regular run-of-the-mill hot dogs. There is one for every taste, from the chilli dog, to the tuga (that has a fried egg on top) and even a vegetarian option. But it doesn’t stop there. With also corn dogs, french fries with cheddar and deserts that are to die for. It’s still a very unique place in Porto, and they even offer you a very traditional Portuguese gum called “Gorila” at the end of your meal. You will definitely get a bang for your buck and leave with a few extra pounds.
