Like a breath of fresh air, May Porto events are finally here to fill our days with music, dancing, and…street races. It’s a busy month and the list is bigger than ever, so just think about this month as the warm-up for summertime.

Festival DDD (dias de dança)

It’s just like Led Zepellin said, “dancing days are here again”.
Festival DDD, is the biggest international contemporary dance festival in Portugal and it plans to connect Porto, Matosinhos and Gaia. The diverse programme will take you on a journey all over the city, and it includes workshops for both beginners and professional dancers, meetings and performances. Some of the performances are part of the “Body+City” program, where you will discover gardens, squares and even metro stations with unusual choreographies, each one suitable for the space where it will be performed.

SEGMENTA 024 w/ Fit Siegel

If you pay close attention, right next to Coliseu do Porto you will find a neon sign that will take you to one of the most unique clubs in Porto. One where eclectic music is always playing, a perfect fit for the more alternative and artistic crowds.
Coming straight from Detroit, DJ Fit Siegel will fill the room with his underground sounds, a mix of house, techno and post-punk.

Porto Street Stage – Rally de Portugal

Porto’s city center will welcome the 52nd edition of Rally de Portugal. In the late afternoon of the 18th of May, at 07:03 pm and 07:28 pm, all of you rally enthusiasts will be able to see some of the best pilots from the World Rally Championship. This year the route was extended, also passing by Clérigos.
This is usually one of the most crowded events in the city, so try to arrive early!

Porto Blues Fest

Blues will invade the beautiful gardens of Palácio de Cristal for two nights especially dedicated to this very heartfelt and strong genre.
Bands like the North South Blues Connection (POR), Pat “Mother Blues” Cohen (USA) and Chino + The Big Bet (ESP) will be performing.

North Music Festival

North Music Festival might still be considered a baby in the Portuguese festival scene, but the line-up this year will definitely change that. The first edition was held in Guimarães, but this year they decided to move to Porto with bands like Gogol Bordello, Guano Apes and The Prodigy as headliners. Besides the international names, Portuguese bands will also perform and it’s the perfect opportunity for you to get acquainted with their music. Mão Morta (one of the most important bands in the Portuguese rock scene), Linda Martini, First Breath after Coma, Xinobi and more.

Cultura em Expansão
As part of the festival Cultura em Expansão, students from ESMAE (School of Music and Performing Arts) were challenged to create their own show based on “Espírito do Lugar”, a performance that has been presented in the last three editions of the festival. The student’s presentations will take place in situ, influenced by Porto’s community and landscapes.
