Surf Shops Where You Can Buy Gear, Eat, Drink and More

“Only a surfer knows the feeling” – so they say (nailed it Billabong)! As with any proper coastal city, Porto has a big and pretty enthusiastic community of people who actually happen to “know that feeling”. We admit we may not know much about surfing, but you can be sure as hell we can find our way around a coffee table. That being said, there’s quite a few unconventional surf shops scattered around the city where you can sit down and enjoy your breakfast while shopping for some gear or discussing the weather forecast for the next couple of days. Want to know who they are? Then come along and ride this wave with us!

HANGFIVE MATOSINHOS – SURF CULTURE & FOOD

Not to be mistaken with the brand’s original location further south in Peniche, our first entry is the business’s second-ever surf shop, which was inaugurated last June in the seaside district of Matosinhos. With a beautiful concept built around sustainability and focused on the support of small, Portuguese brands, HangFive is a laidback shop and a great place to stop-by for a beer after spending the day surfing at the beach. In fact, and considering there are several craft brands up for grabs, one can say beer is probably their second passion. After all, is there a better drink to go along with sunny days, wild waves, sandy feet and salty curls? HangFive Matosinhos is open from Monday to Saturday between 2pm and 8pm.

Its location, right next to the Matosinhos Beach, makes it the perfect place for you to enjoy the sunset view from their terrace. A single surf lesson can cost as little as 20€ if you decide to give it a go, but either way, make sure to end your afternoon with some fruity pancakes and an açaí bowl.
