For a relatively small and peripheral city within the European context, Porto does boast a pretty interesting set of artists and musicians. From new up-and-coming performers to experienced household names who’ve been around for decades, all generations seem to be catered to! Besides, it’s not like only the mainstream audience will be able to enjoy our music! Though we do have some singers who follow a more commercial vibe, the city’s most acclaimed artists are actually famous for being quite alternative and hipster-ish. What can we say – we love our music!
Case in point: Miguel Araújo! This hugely popular local singer and songwriter won Best Solo Act (as well as Best Busker for his impromptu outdoor performances) and is famous for his simple and remarkably relatable lyrics which often revolve around childhood memories, iconic city locations and love stories.
As for the Best Band, GNR took the crown on this one! They’ve been around for almost 40 years (since 1981) and aren’t showing any signs of slowing down, with their iconic vocalist Rui Reininho standing as one of the most recognizable musicians in the country.
Last, but certainly not least, Pedro Tenreiro had yet another roof-raisin’ year and took home Best Club DJ.
