Colourful quays, amazing views, hip quarters and larger-than-life personalities across all sectors of society – it’s time for our People & Places category!
Remember when we said FC Porto had tremendous results in the previous category? Well, guess they weren’t done yet! To the surprise of utterly no one, they won Best Football Club, a nomination any other city club will hardly ever take away from them (sorry Boavista). Still in the sports section, and on a far more surprising note, André Silva was named Best Football Player.
On the Best Comedian award, and despite divisive opinions about his work within his industry, Fernando Rocha once again proved his massive popularity among the public and took home the crown. When it comes to making this city run like a well oiled machine, it’s the recipient of the Best Politician who gets this honour. Unsurprisingly, city mayor Rui Moreira repeated last year’s success and once again won the vote. Keep up the great work Rui!
But since this category is called “People & Places”, it’s now time to explore the latter! Among the city’s most popular areas and neighbourhoods, the trendy Cedofeita quarter was named Best Hood ahead of the seaside charms of Foz do Douro. At last, D. Luis I Bridge got Best City Icon, strengthening its status as Porto’s ultimate postcard picture.
